What is the FGTS?
The Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) is a mandatory savings account created by the Government to protect dismissed workers. Every month, your company is legally required to deposit8% of your gross salaryin an account linked to Caixa Econômica Federal. Important: this amount is NOT deducted from your salary, it is an additional cost that the company assumes.
The famous 40% Fine
If the company decides to fire you without a serious reason (without just cause), it cannot simply tell you to leave. The law requires it to calculate everything it has deposited in your FGTS account over the years, and pay a fine equivalent to 40% of that total amount! That is why very long-term employees are rarely fired: the fine becomes huge.
Our tool calculates these values in a simulated way. Remember that the Government pays a small interest of 3% per year on the balance left in the account, which may make your actual balance in the app slightly higher than our conservative estimate.
